STRIKERS PLAYERS VISITED ELITE SOCCER ACADEMY

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AUGUST 9, 2011) - Team members from the Fort Lauderdale Strikers visited the Elite Soccer Academy in West Palm Beach on Tuesday, August 9, from 5:30 to 7:30p.m. Strikers' captain Aaron Hohlbein and goalkeeper Phillip Lamarre spoke to more than 60 young soccer players from the academy at their training session.

"These events are a great way for the players to make a strong connection with the kids and hopefully offer some good advice as they develop their skills," said Graham Greytak, account executive for the Strikers.

After answering questions from the players and their parents, Hohlbein and Lamarre stuck around to sign autographs. Elite Soccer Academy has been a supporter of the Strikers this season, as the club also purchased tickets so their group could all sit in the same section for the August 27th Centennial game versus FC Tampa Bay.

The Strikers play at home against NSC Minnesota Stars on Wednesday, August 8 at 7:30 p.m. This match and all matches are streamed live at www.strikers.com/live. For ticket information call 954-606-0400 or visit strikers.com

ELITE SOCCER ACADEMY, August 2011 Newsletter

Welcome Players, Parents, and the entire Elite family to the start of the 2011-2012 Competitive Season!! After a successful year of development last year, we are looking forward to raising the bar even higher for this season and moving forward into the future to ensure that Elite Soccer Academy is the Premier Soccer Club for player development.
As part of the Club’s reach for excellence, there are several new and exciting things happening at Elite Soccer Academy. Some of the highlights to look forward to this season are:
1.    Director of Player Development Coach Dusko has put together a training curriculum for the upcoming season focusing on the age-level appropriate principles set forth by US Soccer to develop players at the National Team level. Coach Dusko will be presenting this information to the Coaching Staff and working with them to ensure that the curriculum is presented uniformly to every child in our Club. As in the past two seasons, he will also personally oversee each and every training session in our Club.
2.    We have added specialized coaches to our staff as part of our vision of Complete Player Development and will continue to look for quality additions to the Elite family. Beginning in August, we will offer the following:
·         Goalkeeper Coaching will begin on August 10th and will continue weekly. This training will be open to keepers/potential keepers in addition to our normal practice sessions.
·         Speed and Agility Training will be offered beginning August 5th and will continue throughout the season. More information regarding this will be made available at our Parent meeting(s) on August 1st and 2nd.
3.    We have developed a Team Manager Handbook and will hold meetings for Team Managers on August 3rd and 4th. If you are interested in helping your team and the Club by volunteering for this position, please contact Patrick Kennedy or Jahaira Cabrera. Each team WILL BE REQUIRED to have an active Team Manager.
Come out to meet Ft. Lauderdale Strikers Players!!
On August 9th, the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers will have players from their Club join us for our training sessions. As you know, the Strikers and Elite have joined together to expose our players to the professional game and to support our local professional Club. Graham Greytak will also be on hand with tickets available to the Strikers home games and to a special youth night in late August. Please join us in supporting our Club and the Strikers by coming out to meet the player(s) and by purchasing Strikers home game tickets!

Player Registration
Player registration has begun and all pertinent paperwork and fees will be due to the Team Managers no later than Friday, August 8th, 2011. We have been distributing player registration packages at our Saturday Street Soccer events and have the electronic versions available. Copies will also be available at the first night of training.

ELITE SOCCER ACADEMY WELCOMES HIGHLY RESPECTED GOALKEEPER COACH TO ITS STUFF

Elite Soccer Academy is proud to announce the addition of Coach James Kryger to the Club as our Goalkeeper Coach. Coach Kryger comes to Elite with an extensive soccer coaching and playing career. Coach Kryger was named the Head Coach for Palm Beach Atlantic University women’s soccer history on August 1st, 2008 will begin his fourth season with the Sailfish in August 2011. Under his leadership, PBAU reached new heights in 2010 as they made an appearance in the NCCAA National Championship match; falling eventually in penalty kicks to be named the National Runner-Up. Coach Kryger's team has also continued to prove successful in the classroom as they earned their third straight NSCAA/Adidas Team Academic Award following the 2010 season. Coach Kryger is also currently the goalkeeper coach for the Magic Jack Womens’ Professional Soccer team based in Boca Raton which has on its roster several National Team members including goalkeeper Hope Solo.

Prior to his current coaching positions, Coach Kryger was the head coach of the Brevard County Expos, of the United Soccer League, a women’s professional team out of Cocoa Beach, Florida, where he was named Sunshine Conference Coach of the year and led nine players to all-conference and all-league first-team selections. Coach Kryger has returned to his collegiate coaching roots at PBAU after leading the Expos to an undefeated 11-0-1 season and a trip to the National Quarterfinals in 2008. A former assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at NCAA Division I institutions Western Carolina University (2005-2006) and Campbell University (2003-2005), he was also heavily involved with the Olympic Development Program during his time in North Carolina. A native of St. Catharine’s, Ontario, Coach Kryger has also served as a head coach for over 10 years at the internationally renowned Vogelsinger Nike Soccer Academy, formerly directed by Hubert Vogelsinger, one of the original master soccer coaches in the US.

No stranger to the game as a player, Coach Kryger began his collegiate playing career at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virgina, playing two seasons in goal for the NCAA Division II institution. He earned all-conference honors in both 1999 and 2000 and also was a key part of the Cardinals WVIAC champion track and field team. In 2000, he finished with 8 shutouts and a 1.25 goals-against average, which ranked 15th nationally among NCAA Division II goalies. Following his sophomore season at Wheeling Jesuit, Coach Kryger transferred to Cleveland State University where he was a two-year starter for the Vikings. In 25 career matches he recorded 121 saves in goal. He graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a focus in sports psychology. He also holds a masters degree in Exercise Science from Campbell University. Coach Kryger made the transition into the coaching profession prematurely after an injury cut short his professional playing career. Kryger backstopped international Finn Harps Football Club of the Irish Premier Division and Ipswich Town Football Club in England's first division. After graduating from Cleveland State in 2001, Kryger was then drafted by the Toronto Lynx of the North America A-League, where he played two seasons in goal before suffering the retirement-forcing injury.

In addition to his extensive coaching and playing experience, Coach Kryger also holds coaching licenses from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), and the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA).

Elite Soccer Academy showcased at Strikers game

On June 29th, Elite Soccer Academy had the opportunity to participate in the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers game against their rivals, Tampa Bay FC. Our players led the pre-game parade onto the field during warm ups, walked out with the Strikers players for the team presentation and singing of the national anthem, and then played on the pitch during halftime in front of the thousands of fans in attendance. We were also witness to a great match with the Strikers scoring an equalizer goal just into stoppage time at the end of the game to make the score 1-1. The Strikers almost came away with the win with a spectacular bicycle kick in the 93rd minute that was blocked by a Tampa FC defender to save the tie! For our Director of Player Development Dusko Piljic and our all coaching staff, this event was part of our continuing commitment to expose Elite players to the game at highest levels and was a great experience for our kids to continue to feed their passion for the game. It also serves as a reminder of our commitment and direction that Elite Soccer Academy be the area’s premier Club for COMPLETE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT. Continue to check our website for upcoming events and for more information how you can become a part of and/or a supporter of Elite Soccer Academy.

Elite Soccer Academy’s Success at 2011 Disney Memorial Day Soccer Shootout

During this past season, our coaches and players have put in a lot of time and effort on their individual development and the development of our Club. This hard work was clearly showcased during our last event of the season at the Disney Memorial Day Shootout. Elite sent six teams to the tournament which included over 330 teams from around the country and from as far away as Argentina. All of our teams were successful in playing the “Elite style” of soccer that has been instilled in our kids from our Director of Coaching, Dusko Piljic. Even with our focus on development and style of play rather than winning, 3 of our 6 teams made the tournament finals!! Based on the level of play at this event, this is an amazing accomplishment for our Club. Two of the three teams that made the finals were from our U10 boys program and they both played valiantly in the finals and were able to come away with 2nd Place finishes against great competition. The third team that was able to make the finals was our U11 girls. In their first year of existence with no team members having previous travel soccer experience, it has been amazing to see their development. Playing against a team that had not even given up a goal during the tournament, our girls came together and fought till the final whistle and came away with a 1-0 victory to claim the title! Congratulations to all of our players and coaches and thank you to the parents who supported Elite Soccer Academy throughout this season. We look forward to seeing you all next season.

ALEXI LALAS VISITED ELITE SOCCER ACADEMY

Elite Soccer Academy Hosts Alexi Lalas

Elite Soccer Academy was proud to have soccer legend and ESPN commentator Alexi Lalas as a special guest at a recent training session.  Mr. Lalas graciously answered questions from the children and spoke at-length about his experiences as a world-class soccer player.  He encouraged the children to have fun playing the game, work hard, learn from coaches, try different positions and play with passion.

“What a fantastic opportunity it was for our players to hear about the game from his perspective,” said Dusko Piljic, Elite’s Director of Player Development.  “He was able to communicate his experiences in a way that really reached our kids.  I think we’re a better club for having had him as a guest.”
Mr. Lalas had a long and successful career in professional soccer and was a highly respected defender for the United States National Team.  He was a key contributor to the team’s run in 1994 FIFA World Cup, usually assigned to defend the opposing team’s top scorer.  He became the first American soccer player to play in the Italian Serie A. League, and was an important part of the early growth of Major League Soccer (MLS).  Following his playing career, Mr. Lalas served as President and General Manager of various MLS teams, including the Los Angeles Galaxy, and was elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2006.  He currently works as an analyst with ESPN and ABC Sports, and was an important part of the coverage of the 2010 World Cup.
Elite Soccer Academy was proud to host Mr. Lalas and is grateful for his time and generosity.
